Chip–tuning of modern cars is on the increase. With the evolution of technology allowing the access to the Engine ECU software easier than ever, chip tuning offers a cheap fix for people looking for economy and power increases. It all sounds good so far, but by allowing third party equipment to access, download and reload the software, it opens up the possibility of errors occurring.
BMW has spent many years developing the engines in today's cars; cars with a reputation for reliability, to surpass hundreds of thousands of miles without failure. These engines perform like no other because of the careful operating limits into which is placed within the software. These limits ensure the engine is always within specification for which it was designed. When engines are "chipped" these limits are removed which places excessive stress and strain on components beyond that which was initially conceived. This leads to component failure. The detection of these failing devices is carried out by the same ECU but a different system. When a device fails to operate at the correct theoretical map (which would have been changed) the contradiction can create false ECU error codes that can leave some engine operating systems isolated until rectified. These false codes cause many, many hours of fault finding leading to huge garage bills often with various components being changed and then eventually the ECU's being replaced.
Please be informed - A remap will inhibit repair of components through out the car that need encoding following repair. That includes ABS, DSC, IDrive, Airbag systems, body control systems.... Infact a modern BMW can have up to 40 computer systems that may break down. This is a strong warning for people having the DPF deleted.
This service is for owners who wish to return the software back to standard and is unavailable to cars that have been chipped with hardware modifications, or modification physically made to the engine.
BMWMAN does not offer ECU remapping of any kind but can supply you with the very latest software released from BMW for your car, which can eliminate errors with flat spots and other associated faults.
"Most people believe that because they own a BMW only BMW can work on it. That's not true. There are many BMW specialists out there that will look at your car, but they tend to only deal with the engine, gearbox and running gear.
BMWMAN has the ability to access everything about your car."
